Big12 Week 3 Breakdown
#2 Oklahoma vs. #7 Florida State
The Sooners and Seminoles are playing the game of the week in college football. Both teams score a lot and don’t give up a lot of points. In their previous meeting last year, Florida State was embarrassed. This season is a different story. EJ Manuel is quarterbacking the Seminoles and he can do more than Christian Ponder could. He is more athletic, so the running game is more of a threat this season. For Oklahoma, Landry Jones is still running the show. He was a great quarterback last year and is only getting better. Expect a lot of points to be put up in this game
Predicted Winner: Oklahoma
#8 Oklahoma State vs. Tulsa
Is there a defense in the nation that can stop the Oklahoma State Cowboys? If so, that defense is not Tulsa. Brandon Weeden is very accurate and Justin Blackmon is the best wide receiver in college football today.
Predicted Winner: Oklahoma State
#12 Texas A&M vs. Idaho
The Aggies rush for over 200 yards per game. This is bad news for the Vandals of Idaho who gave up 32 points to Bowling Green. A&M will roll through this game
Predicted Winner: A&M
#21 Texas vs. UCLA
I’m still not sold on the Longhorns. They have a well-balanced offense, but they are not winning in a convincing manner. UCLA can easily run for over 200 yards in a game. They score a lot and have home field advantage, so it should be a good test for Texas. It takes a good quarterback to carve up UCLA’s defense, and that’s what the University of Houston had when they beat the Bruins in Week 1. UT doesn’t have Case Keenum, so we will have to see what the Longhorns can do.
Predicted Winner: UCLA
#24 Baylor vs. Stephen F. Austin
Baylor had the week off after upsetting TCU in Waco. They will be well rested when Robert Griffin III and his high powered offense take the field against SFA. The Baylor Bears will get to 2-0 and look to climb the rankings
Predicted Winner: Baylor
Missouri vs. Western Illinois
While both of these teams are 1-1, Missouri is clearly the better team. After losing to Arizona State in overtime in Tempe, the Tigers will be eager to try and get back in the Top 25. Missouri is well rounded and will roll over the Western Illinois Leathernecks.
Predicted Winner: Missouri
Kansas vs. Georgia Tech
Georgia Tech underachieved last season. This year, they’re on a mission. They have been scoring a lot by running hard. Kansas is also undefeated and they’re a team on the rise. The Jayhawks also like to run the ball, but Georgia Tech remembers the last meeting and they won’t be upset again.
Predicted Winner: Georgia Tech
Iowa State vs. Connecticut
Iowa State has been a pleasant surprise. Beating Iowa was a good launching point for the Cyclones. Connecticut has not started as strong as they would like. Look for Iowa State to keep on rolling this week.
Predicted Winner: Iowa State
Texas Tech vs. New Mexico
Texas Tech is another team that spreads the field and throws the ball all over. And they get into the end zone a lot. The Red Raiders will keep that scoring trend this week. New Mexico gives up a lot of points and has not registered a win yet.
Predicted Winner: Texas Tech
Kansas State vs. Kent State
Is there anything that Kent State does well? They don’t score a lot, they don’t move the ball, and they don’t play good defense. Kansas State needs to get their offense in rhythm for the season and Kent State is a good opponent for that.
Predicted Winner: Kansas State
