Big 12 Football Week 7 Breakdown
#5 Oklahoma State vs. #20 Texas
Avert your eyes from The Longhorn Network! Texas got a rude awakening last week against Oklahoma and Texas’ plummet will continue this week against the Cowboys. Brandon Weeden has thrown 15 touchdown passes this season to go along with almost 1900 yards. He quarterbacks the best passing offense in the country. Texas has no answer. Texas loses and might drop out of the top 25. After all, who has been Texas’ best win this year? BYU (by 1 point)?
Predicted Winner: Oklahoma State
#23 Texas A&M vs. Baylor
Baylor might not be ranked in our Madness polls, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t a threat. After all, they have been ranked in previous weeks. They still have Robert Griffin III who works his offense with great efficiency. But Kyle Field is a tough place to play. The Aggies are a very balanced team, but they’ve been on a skid lately. They lost to Oklahoma State and Arkansas, and answered with a bad showing against Texas Tech. Texas A&M needs to get back into form if they want to save their season. But Baylor has something to prove as well. Remember, it was Baylor that originally tried to block A&M from going to the SEC. That means that this game is personal. If there is one game that the Aggies need, its this one.
Predicted Winner: Texas A&M
#19 Kansas State vs. Texas Tech
Kansas State has been the biggest Big 12 surprise this season. Big wins against Baylor, Miami, and Missouri really put them on the map. Texas Tech proved that they might be able to hang with the big boys of the Big 12 with a close game against Texas A&M last week. But are the Wildcats for real? I think they get the win in a classic running offense versus a passing offense. Kansas State wins the time of possession battle and gets the win.
Predicted Winner: Kansas State
#3 Oklahoma vs. Kansas
Kansas just gave up 70 points to Oklahoma State. A total of 56 of those came in the first half. Oklahoma might not put up those numbers, but this game won’t be pretty for Jayhawk fans. Landry Jones will be on the bench the whole 4th quarter, but for all the right reasons.
Predicted Winner: Oklahoma
Missouri vs. Iowa State
This is the only game in the Big 12 that does not feature a ranked team. Missouri has been an utter disappointment this season. Sophomore quarterback James Franklin had a lot to live up to. Iowa State will get the Tigers back on the winning track and bring them to a .500 record. But the Tigers have a lot of work to do if they want to be bowl eligible.
Predicted Winner: Missouri
