Katelyn Boyd, Senior, Infield, Arizona State
Overview:
By the end of her collegiate career, Katelyn Boyd will be at or near the top of every major offensive statistical category in Arizona State history. In 2011, as a junior, she hit .429 and had an on-base percentage of a very impressive .549. Boyd is simply a pure hitter. In 66 games last season she knocked in 66 runs, hit 14 doubles and knocked 18 pitches out of the park. Those are the type of numbers Boyd has put up throughout her entire career and it is easy to see why she is one of the best hitting seniors in this class.
Final Projection:
Boyd is also surprisingly disciplined for such an effective hitter. The opposition will pitch around her on many occasions, accounting for a healthy chunk of her 52 walks in 2011, but she does not just go up to plate hacking away at anything near the strike zone. And to add to the list of impressive feats, Boyd stole 20 bases last season and was not caught once. Even in that category she will rank among the best ever at ASU. There is not much bad to say about Boyd, but she is not the greatest defensive shortstop in the country. She is certainly not bad and could very well turn into a franchise shortstop at the next level.
