Victor Rodriguez, Senior, Goalkeeper, New Mexico
Overview:
Victor Rodriguez burst onto the national scene during New Mexico’s undefeated 2011 campaign. Prior to that the Lobo goalie spent 2008 on the sidelines as a redshirt, 2009 making just one appearance and 2010 making three spot starts.
But he was the starting keeper in 2011 for all 22 games and allowed just 11 goals. He saved .851 percent of the shots headed his direction. The defense in front of Rodriguez is very good, but Rodriguez deserves a lot of credit for the Lobos dozen shutouts and dominating defense.
Final Projection:
At 6-2 and 180 pounds, Rodriguez has the size and athleticism to continue his soccer career. With just one season as a starter under his belt, he still has a lot to prove before any team in the MLS will take a chance on him. But he will have that opportunity to prove himself during the 2012 campaign.
