John Stertzer, Senior, Midfield, Maryland
Overview:
It took John Stertzer some time to make his mark at Maryland, but by his junior campaign the attacking midfielder was making big strides for the Terrapins. Stertzer played well in limited action as an underclassman, scoring some big goals along the way, but it was in 2011 when he really made a name for himself.
Stertzer scored 14 goals during his junior campaign and tallied four assists. Perhaps more impressive than his goal total, was his efficiency. Stertzer only took 31 shots. Of those 31 shots, 21 were on target and 14 ended up in the back of the net.
Final Projection:
MLS teams will want to see another quality season from Stertzer before he emerges as a sure pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft, but he is well on his way. Stertzer is a good set piece taker and can use his 6-0, 170 pound frame to finish with his head as well as his feet.
