Week 7 Other Conference Game Breakdowns
This is a lackluster week for college football, as several top teams and other conferences are either taking breaks or playing less-than-stellar competition. That’s all right. Not every conference can produce a good game every week. As it is, the Ivy, Patriot, MEAC and Big South feature the top games of the week. We’re not too far away from November and playoff time, so cherish these chances to breathe when you can.
Brown at Princeton, Saturday, 12:00
Four teams own a share of the Ivy League lead after the first week of the season, and Princeton (2-2, 1-0) looks to make it three games out of four when it takes on Brown this week. Brown (3-1, 0-1) won its second straight when it defeated Rhode Island, 17-7, in last week’s showdown. Patrick Donnelly threw for just 125 yards in that game as Cody Taulbee scored both touchdowns for the Bears. Princeton also made it two in a row last week with a 35-14 win over Lafayette. Akil Sharp and Roman Wilson combined for three touchdowns. Neither team’s passing game is strong, so it will be the battle of the rushers.

#12 Lehigh at Georgetown, Saturday, 1:00
This Patriot League contest pits one of the best teams in FCS play against a team yet to win a Patriot contest. Lehigh (6-0, 1-0) dominated Ivy League opponent Columbia last week, 35-14, behind four touchdowns and 296 yards by Mike Colvin, the linchpin of the Lehigh offense. Georgetown (3-3, 0-1) came off a heartbreaking 38-31 loss to Fordham last week in its first Patriot game. Fordham’s Carlton Koonce scored on a 1-yard run with nine minutes remaining to seal the deal in an even game where Georgetown was seven yards behind Fordham, 419-412, in total offense. This likely will be a high-scoring affair, but Lehigh should come out on top.

Morgan State at North Carolina Central, Saturday, 1:00
The top two teams of the Mideastern Athletic Conference – Howard and Bethune-Cookman – are both 3-0 but playing teams that are toward the middle or bottom of the MEAC this week. This matchup pits two 2-0 MEAC teams against each other, and they also share identical 3-2 overall marks. Morgan State, which has outscored its opponents 66-24 in two league wins, blasted Savannah State 45-6 last week behind 125 yards and three touchdowns from Travis Davidson. North Carolina Central dealt a blow to the South – that is, South Carolina State – with a 40-10 victory. North Carolina Central’s running game accounted for three touchdowns and130 yards in the win.

#14 Stony Brook at Coastal Carolina, Saturday, 3:30
We’re not even two weeks into the Big South Conference season, and Stony Brook looks like a team that will not only win the championship but also go far in the playoffs. Stony Brook (5-1, 1-0) takes on a Coastal Carolina team that is 2-3 overall and yet to play its first game in conference. Stony Brook destroyed Charleston Southern, 49-7, behind 263 yards and five touchdowns from quarterback Kyle Essington. Considering Charleston Southern is also among the nation’s top 25 FCS teams, this was not expected. Coastal Carolina lost its third game in a row when it met the buzz saw known as Appalachian State and fell, 55-14, as the Appalachian defense limited quarterback Aramis Hillary to 145 yards.
