Marquette Men's Soccer 2012 NCAA Tournament Capsule

Marquette Golden Eagles
Big East

Marquette was in battle for the top five Big East spots from the beginning of the season especially against UConn. Marquette took on UConn and toppled their reign of the Big East but fell to Georgetown a few matches later. A handful of wins, then a fall to Notre Dame, followed by a tie with the Fighting Irish, put Marquette in the number four spot of the Big East Blue Division.

2012 Record: 16-3-1, 5-2-1
Coach:  Louis Bennett

Good Results: 9/14 Michigan (2-1), 10/6 Connecticut (3-2), 11/3 at Louisville (2-1)
Bad Results: 10/13 at Georgetown (1-2), 10/24 at Notre Dame (1-3), 10/27 Notre Dame (1-1)

Why They Can Surprise:
With 12 straight wins in the regular season before losing their undefeated title to Georgetown late in the season, Marquette again faltered in the Big East Tournament, again to Georgetown. The Marquette offense may not, statistically, stack up with UConn but their defense does. Only allowing 16 goals on the season with the help of keeper Charlie Lyon tallying 85 saves himself, the defense has proved their talents on the pitch. Going into the NCAA tournament following the Big East tourney, Marquette will have a good chance to continue their high spirits and keep the surprises coming.
