BYU Region Women's Soccer 2nd and 3rd Round Tournament Breakdowns

#1 Brigham Young vs. Auburn

BYU got a bit of a scare from Utah State after taking a 2-0 lead into the break. However, the Aggies know the Cougars extremely well and that should have been a close game for that reason. Do not sleep on BYU. The Cougars next step will be against Auburn. The Tigers got off to a great start at Washington, scoring two goals in the first 15 minutes. The Huskies got a goal back in the first half but could not get any closer. Tatiana Coleman is Auburn’s best player, but watch out for Tori Ball who had a great outing in Seattle.

#4 Marquette vs. Princeton

Illinois State was a little unlucky to run into Marquette during the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The Golden Eagles were a tad unfortunate to be a four seed. They had little trouble with the Redbirds, finishing up with a 3-0 victory. Princeton played a great game against West Virginia, coming away with a 2-0 win to advance to the second round. The Tigers have a very potent offense and they will need great showings from Jen Hoy and Lauren Lazo to be this year’s Cinderella squad.

BYU is still the team to beat in this grouping, but Marquette has all the tools necessary to make a serious run to San Diego. With Maegan Kelly leading the way, this could be the Golden Eagles’ year. However, it is noteworthy that this group lacks historical powerhouses. It is actually Princeton, who reached the College Cup in 2004, who has the most tournament experience as a program. But the Tigers also have not made the tournament since 2008, so that tournament experience has nothing to do with the current squad.
