Georgetown vs. San Diego Men's Soccer Quarterfinal Breakdown
#3 Georgetown vs. San Diego
Georgetown was able to keep their season alive by beating Syracuse but the win didn’t come easy with the tying goal by GU’s Brandon Allen coming with just over five minutes left to play in regulation time. The match continued through two overtimes and moved into a shootout. The Hoyas won the shootout 4-2 and will move on to San Diego in the quarter final. Georgetown has had a long road taking on the rest of the Big East and then playing teams like Charlotte and Syracuse in the NCAA tournament. The Hoya’s offense put out their best this season scoring a total of 36 goals with Brandon Allen leading the team with 15. The defense has done their part as well holding their opponents to just 19 goals, but keepers Tomas Gomez and Keon Parsa have worked hard tallying a total of 91 saves between them. But it isn’t over. Georgetown will meet up against San Diego in the quarter finals on the road to the cup. San Diego has clawed their way through the first three rounds of the NCAA tournament and pushed through Cal State Northridge, UCLA and Tulsa to make it this far and don’t plan on giving in now. Looking at their records and stats, Georgetown is the better team but the flight is enough to give San Diego the edge. Both teams have aggressive offenses and can put the ball in the net but USD has more players that can handle the ball. Both teams have a pair of keepers that have spent minutes in the net this season but Georgetown has allowed fewer goals. The offensive advantage goes to USD while the defense favors GU.
