2013 Baseball World Series Corvallis Regional Breakdown
#3 Oregon State, Texas A&M, UC-Santa Barbara, Texas-San Antonio
Oregon State finished as Pac-12 Conference champions and had a solid enough season to earn their fourth regional-host bid in school history. The previous three regionals came in 2005, 2006 and 2011. Oregon State (45-10 overall) is 22-4 in games played at Corvallis, so it will be tough for opponents to come in and do some damage. Six players have batting averages above .300, led by Dylan Davis (.344-4-53). Michael Conforto (.332-9-42) leads the power bats, but the reality is Oregon State doesn’t have the homer hitting other teams might. What Oregon State lacks in power it makes up for in pitching, with a staff led by Andrew Moore (12-1, 1.22) and Matt Boyd (10-3, 2.09).
Texas A&M makes its seventh straight NCAA appearance and its first as a member of the Southeastern Conference. The Aggies (32-27) are led by speedsters Mikey Reynolds, Krey Bratsen and Blake Allemand, all of whom have double-digit steals. UC-Santa Barbara (34-23) finished tied for second in the Big West and qualified for the tournament for the first time since 2001. The Gauchos made it to the NCAA by winning their final six series of the season, largely behind the bats of Woody Woodward and Joey Epperson and the pitching of Greg Mahle and Robby Nisovic. Texas-San Antonio, or UTSA for short, finished 35-23 and took fourth place in the Western Athletic Conference. UTSA earned the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament with a win over Dallas Baptist in the WAC finals.
