Brandon Coleman, Junior, Wide Receiver, Rutgers
Overview:
At 6'6", Brandon Coleman is one of the more formidable wide receiving threats in the country. In addition to his great size, the Rutgers product shows an excellent first step and burst, as well as good body control. What sets Coleman apart though is his big play ability. Through his first two seasons (26 career games), he averages over 21 yards per catch. More importantly, he also has an insane knack for finding the endzone. Of just 60 career receptions, Brandon Coleman has scored 16 touchdowns. 27% of his catches go for a score. Compare that to some of his peers: Marqise Lee is at 13%; Cody Hoffman is at 14%; Jordan Matthews and Sammy Watkins just 11%. Entering his junior year, Coleman now sits just four scores away from the school record for touchdown receptions in a career.
Final Projection:
It remains to be seen whether Brandon Coleman will enter the NFL draft after his junior year. He will probably not be the first wide receiver taken if he does. Although he has the best size and good speed for a man standing 6'6", teams will most likely lean towards USC receiver Marqise Lee if given the choice. With the way the NFL is going, Clemson's Sammy Watkins may also be a better fit for certain teams. However, if Coleman does decide to come out, he has a chance at being a first round talent; and that is a hard thing to pass up.
