Jason Verrett, Senior, Cornerback, TCU
Overview:
TCU's 2013 season was not up to the standard fans and the school were expecting. The same cannot be said about TCU cornerback Jason Verrett though. Standing barely 5'10", with a small frame and lacking elite speed, Verrett does not have the body to propel his draft stock up. His production and instincts make up for this. An impressive interception total as a junior has been followed by solid numbers his senior year. Although the interception total may fall short of the prior season, Verrett is still breaking up a comparable number of passes, proving he possesses good ball skills. The knowledge opponents have of his corner skills and their level of desire to avoid his side of the field should also be factored into any statistical measure of his talents, as with any top-flight coverage man.
Final Projection:
There are a number of high end cornerbacks eligible for this coming NFL draft. Jason Verrett is not the biggest or fastest for sure. He also may not possess the best coverage skills or the best run support. However, his all-around game is certainly desirable. It will be a surprise if Verrett is the first or second corner drafted. He still has day one potential though and an impressive combine showing could vault him ahead of some of his positional peers.
