David Yankey, Junior, Offensive Tackle, Stanford
Overview:
David Yankey played offensive line for Stanford University as a true freshman in 2010 before suffering a season-ending injury. The following season, he was an All-Pac-12 honorable mention starting at guard on one of the best offenses in the conference. As a redshirt sophomore the next season, Yankey made it to the All-Pac-12 first team and was named an All-American starting, this time, at tackle. In his junior year, Yankey has been equally as impressive, being a part of the demolition that took place in the trenches against Oregon in November. He also played at center for a game, ever widening his flexibility across the offensive line.
Final Projection:
With the likes of Cyrus Kouandijo, Jake Matthews and others projected atop draft boards, David Yankey will have tremendous competition if he wants to be a first round draft pick. However, one thing he has that the others do not is experience starting and excelling at multiple positions across the line. Being named All-conference honorable mention one year at guard and grabbing All-conference first team the following year at tackle is a tremendous accomplishment. If NFL scouts see him as strictly a guard, it may hurt his overall stock but he could be the first guard taken in 2014.
