Quincy Miller, Freshman, Power Forward, Baylor
Overview:
Things were setting up nicely for Baylor Forward Quincy Miller. In June 2010, Miller won a gold medal at the FIBA Americas U18 Championship, making the game winning three in the championship game against Brazil. Heading into his senior season, Miller was regarded as one of the top recruits in the 2011 class, if not the best. Then something unexpected happened as Miller ended his senior season just five games into the schedule by tearing his ACL on December 10th, 2010. After a successful surgery and tough rehabilitation, Miller has made himself available for the start of the 2011 men’s college basketball season.
A 6’9” Hybrid Forward with limitless expectations, Miller is a gifted young player that is sure to make an immediate impact as soon as he hits the court in the fall of 2011. Scoring is Miller’s strong suit, with the ability to create his own shot as well as having excellent ball handling for a player his size. Although he has a horrible looking shot that reminds most people of Shawn Marion for its lack of mechanics, Miller is a good shooter, getting great lift on his jump shot. However he will need to work on his release for the next level, as he struggles with getting separation from his defender.
Final Projection:
Even with the ACL injury and all the unknowns, Miller is still looked at as a top three prospect for the 2012 NBA draft. There will be an increased focus on Baylor basketball this year with fellow top five 2012 NBA draft prospect, Perry Jones already on campus, so expect Miller to take full advantage of the increased spotlight. Miller is on a short list of players that could end up as the No.1 pick in the 2012 NBA draft, alongside teammate Perry Jones, Ohio State’s Jared Sullinger, and Duke’s Austin Rivers.
