Ashley Corral, Senior, Point Guard, USC
Overview:
During her freshman season, Ashley Corral spent most of the season coming in off of the bench, but she started to show what would make her such a special player during the rest of her collegiate career at USC. During her fourth game as a Trojan, Corral knocked down six three-pointers, tying a program record. On the year she connected on 53 long balls and provided a nice spark off of the bench. However, she also proved to be a capable point guard, but it would take another year before she would take over the starting role.
As a sophomore Corral led the team with 15.1 points per game and set a school record for three-pointers made in a season. When Corral was not scoring herself, she was setting up her teammates and dished out a conference high 5.0 assists per game. Compared to her sophomore season, the 2010-2011 campaign may have been slightly disappointing. Corral still averaged 12.9 points and 3.7 assists per game, but many expected more.
Final Projection:
However, what Corral did do during her junior season was cut down on turnovers and increase her outside shooting percentage. The numbers may not have been quite as impressive, but Corral was playing smart basketball most of the time by taking care of the ball and not forcing up as many bad shots. Her ability to create for her teammates and consistently knock down the long ball will make Corral an interesting option for any team in the WNBA.
