Monique Reid, Senior, Small Forward, Louisville
Overview:
As a freshman at Louisville, 6-1 forward Monique Reid had a lot of talented players in front of her on the depth chart. However, she still managed to earn 13 starts and play an important role on the Cardinals. Her numbers were not great since most of the scoring and rebounding was left to the more experienced players, but Reid did a lot of the dirty work to free up space for the rest of the talented frontcourt.
As a sophomore it was Reid’s turn to take over and she did not disappoint, leading the team with an impressive 18.4 points and 9.2 rebounds. The dramatic improvement of production not only led Reid to first-team All-Big East accolades, but also the conference’s Most Improved Player of the Year award. As an upperclassman, Reid continued to lead the Cardinals, averaging 15.5 points and 6.1 rebounds.
Final Projection:
Reid has developed into a fine all-around player. She can obviously score and rebound, but she has a good enough 15-foot jumper to mix up her offensive output. Occasionally she will even step beyond the arc, but her range falls a little short of that line. On the other end of the floor Reid is a decent defender who can block some shots and grab a steal or two per game. With a little more work on her outside shot, Reid could turn into a great scorer at the next level who can work in the post, attack the basket or hit the mid-range jumper with consistency. Stopping a strong 6-1 player that can score in all the ways is very difficult for even the best defenders.
