Eric Bird, Senior, M, Virginia
Overview:
Eric Bird, 2011 Virginia High School State Player of the Year, played in nine games for the Cavaliers during the 2011 season, starting in eight of them. He registered four points (1G, 2A) but missed most of the season after suffering a knee injury against North Carolina. Fortunately, Bird returned to health in 2012, starting all 21 games he appeared in for the Cavaliers and recording five points (2G, 1A). The 2013 season proved to be a breakout year for Bird, as he started 23 of 24 games and led the team with seven goals. His five assists were tied for first on the team. Bird earned ACC All-Tournament Team honors and helped captain Virginia to the College Cup.
Bird is a solid facilitator who can roam the field and join the attack, but he isn’t afraid to drop deep and defend either. He does an excellent job of supporting teammates by providing an outlet for them and opening up passing lanes.
Final Projection:
Bird isn’t a flashy player, but he gets the job done. His consistent two-way play could earn him a spot late in the first round or early in the second round.
